If you’re experiencing dry eye symptoms like redness, a scratchy feeling, tired eyes, or overproduction of tears, you may benefit from a thorough dry eye exam with us.

For many of our patients, when more conservative treatments aren’t providing the desired results, we recommend IPL and RF treatments. These noninvasive treatments have little to no downtime and can provide significant, long-lasting relief.

What Is MGD & Why Should I Treat It?

Dry eye disease caused by meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) can significantly impact your comfort and vision.

MGD happens when the meibomian glands (tiny glands that line the eyelids and provide oil to the tears) are clogged or don’t work properly. This results in the tears not properly protecting the surface of the eyes.

Mild dry eye can cause dryness, redness, blurred vision, and watery eyes. But dry eye is chronic and often progressive, meaning it worsens over time, and you’re often stuck with it for life. IPL and RF can provide symptom relief and help prevent worse discomfort in the future.

Lumecca IPL Treatment for Dry Eye

Lumecca IPL (intense pulsed light) therapy is a noninvasive treatment that uses precise pulses of light to target the root causes of dry eye disease. This includes:

  • Liquefying thickened oil: The heat energy from the light pulses helps to melt the hardened oil in the meibomian glands, making it easier for them to be cleared.
  • Reducing inflammation: IPL also has anti-inflammatory effects, which can improve gland function.
  • Stimulating blood flow: The light energy also stimulates blood flow to the treated area, which can promote healing and improve the overall health of the meibomian glands.

Fine Lines & Redness

IPL can also significantly reduce redness and fine lines around the eyes, giving you a more youthful and refreshed appearance. The treatment targets blood vessels and pigmentation, which can cause redness and uneven skin tone.

What to Expect

IPL therapy is typically performed in a series of sessions, with most of our patients experiencing significant improvement in their dry eye symptoms after just a few treatments. The procedure is generally quite comfortable and requires little to no downtime to help you fit it more easily into your busy life.

IPL for Eyelid Bumps

In addition to treating dry eye symptoms, IPL therapy can also be used on eyelid styes and chalazia (inflamed oil glands), often much more quickly than traditional treatments. The light pulses can help reduce inflammation and promote healing in these cases.

Forma-i RF Treatment for Dry Eye

Forma-i is a noninvasive treatment that uses radiofrequency energy to gently and precisely heat the deeper layers of the delicate skin surrounding the eyes. This controlled heat energy can melt blockages in your meibomian gland. It also helps reduce inflammation, which can contribute to dry eye as well as puffiness, dark circles, and overall skin laxity.

Boost Collagen

The RF energy stimulates the production of collagen and elastin, helping to smooth out fine lines and wrinkles, tighten loose skin, and restore a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance to the eye area.

What to Expect

Your Forma-i treatment typically takes just 10–20 minutes. We’ll generally suggest multiple sessions for the full results and can make a recommendation when we see you for your exam. There’s no downtime, so you can get right back to your day.

RF for Styes & Chalazia

Forma-i can also treat styes and chalazia by reducing inflammation. Styes are uncomfortable, red bumps caused by bacterial infections of the oil glands in the eyelid, while chalazia are similar bumps that result from blocked oil glands.
