Signs You Might Need Emergency Eye Care

If you’ve had trauma to the face or eye, chemical exposure, or any sudden change in your vision, it’s time to seek help. Redness, pain, swelling, or a sudden increase in floaters or light flashes may also point to something serious.

A suspected case of pink eye in you or your child is also a good reason to come in right away. We’ll listen, assess, and treat you with comfort in mind. When in doubt, give us a call.

Flashes, Floaters, & Sudden Vision Changes

Are you suddenly seeing flashes of light or an increase of floaters? Light flashes can be described as “seeing stars,” and floaters look like specks or dots in your field of vision.

These can be signs of issues with the retina (the back of the eye) or other serious conditions. If flashes and floaters come on quickly or affect your vision, contact us immediately.

Floaters can be common, but a sudden change is different and should never be ignored. If anything about your vision suddenly shifts, dims, blurs, or disappears, it’s a reason to see our team right away.

Conjunctivitis: What to Know

Conjunctivitis, or “pink eye,” can be viral, bacterial, or caused by allergies. Viral and bacterial forms are contagious, especially among kids—but adults can catch it, too. Common symptoms include:

  • Redness
  • Itchiness
  • Discharge
  • Watery eyes

If you suspect you or your child are experiencing pink eye, do your best to refrain from touching your eyes, sharing face cloths or pillows, and wearing contacts.

We’ll aim to see you or your child as soon as possible and recommend treatment based on the cause. Depending on the type, relief might involve prescription drops, ointment, allergy medications, or just time and comfort care.
