Why Early Eye Disease Diagnosis Is Key

Did you know that an estimated 90% of vision loss is preventable or treatable? Many eye conditions, like diabetic retinopathy or glaucoma, start to damage vision without noticeable symptoms. This is why regular comprehensive eye exams are vital.

At Envision Eye Care, we use diagnostic technology, including OCT scans, retinal imaging, and VR-powered visual field testing, to uncover even the smallest changes in your eyes.

Whether you visit us for a routine eye exam or you’re experiencing vision problems, our goal is to empower you with the knowledge and care needed to maintain clear, comfortable vision.

Diagnosing & Managing Common Eye Diseases

We understand that it can be stressful to live with a family history of eye diseases or with conditions such as diabetes or high myopia that raise your risk of disease. Our optometrists are compassionate and knowledgeable in their care at all times.

Our approach combines technology with a patient-first philosophy for accurate and effective results.

Often called the “silent thief of sight,” glaucoma can cause permanent vision loss before any symptoms appear.

Our Olleyes virtual reality headset is an easy-to-use eye care device that allows us to monitor changes in your peripheral (side) vision that may be related to glaucoma.

We offer management options, including prescription eye drops and co-management for more advanced treatments when necessary.

Age-related macular degeneration is the leading cause of vision loss for Canadians over 55. Risk factors include a family history of AMD, UV exposure, and smoking.

If you have AMD, we will closely monitor for changes in your retina and provide guidance on lifestyle changes or referrals for further care.

For those living with diabetes, annual dilated eye exams (or more frequent in some cases) are crucial.

Diabetic retinopathy affects the blood vessels in the retina and can cause severe vision problems. Managing your blood sugar is important in keeping your vision healthy when you have diabetes.

At Envision Eye Care, we are skilled in providing glasses and contacts for the complex visual needs of keratoconus

For early-stage keratoconus, we can fit you with glasses and soft or RGP contact lenses. For more advanced cases, we recommend SynergEyes hybrid lenses or scleral lenses.

Caring for Patients with Cataracts

Cataracts, a common eye condition, develop as a natural part of the aging process. They occur when the normally clear lens within the eye becomes cloudy or blurry, similar to a foggy window. This clouding affects the way light enters the eye, leading to gradual vision impairment.

While cataracts cannot be entirely prevented due to their association with aging, there are measures that can be taken to manage their impact and maintain clear vision. In the early stages of cataracts, when vision is only mildly affected, updating your eyeglass prescription can often improve visual acuity.

As cataracts progress and vision becomes significantly impaired, surgery may be recommended. We’re here to co-manage your surgery when the time comes.

Trusted & Effective Diagnostic Eye Care Technology

Our investment in eye care technology means we’re equipped to detect and monitor eye diseases with precision. We may use some or all of the following technology in your eye exam, which allows us to see beneath the surface and get the level of detail often needed for your care.

  • Optical coherence tomography (OCT): Provides detailed scans of your retina to monitor for conditions like AMD and diabetic retinopathy.
  • Fundus photography: Captures high-resolution images of the retina, optic nerve, and other structures to help detect and track changes caused by conditions such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetes.
  • VR visual field testing: Helps spot early signs of glaucoma or diabetic eye disease by measuring peripheral (side) vision.
  • Corneal topography: Creates a map of your cornea’s shape, essential for fitting contact lenses for keratoconus and monitoring corneal conditions.

Accurate diagnostics are the foundation of customized care, and we’re proud to use tools that offer so much information about your eye health.
