Go for a walk in the park

There are a number of different parks around the city that would make a beautiful backdrop for a walk, but 2 that we find especially nice to see are Lions Valley Park and Coronation Park. Bring a picnic and spend the afternoon surrounded by the beauty of nature.

Explore Downtown Oakville

Stroll along the streets of downtown Oakville and experience a neighbourhood lined with shops and cafes. Stop somewhere for lunch or grab some take out and head to the lake for lunch with a beautiful view of Lake Ontario.

Step back in time at the Oakville Museum

Originally home to one of Oakville’s founding fathers, the Oakville Museum now houses a rotating exhibit and offers a look into life in the 1800’s. Several of the old buildings are still standing and open to the public for a closer look at life nearly 200 years ago. It also offers a beautiful view of Lake Ontario!

Birdwatch at the Rattry Marsh

Rattry Marsh is about 15 minutes from Oakville, but it’s well worth the drive! The marsh is home to many different kinds of birds and has a great trail system. So hop in the car and head out for an afternoon. Don’t forget to bring your binoculars!

Grab a Brew at Cameron’s Brewing

There’s no better way to cool down on a hot afternoon than with an ice cold, locally brewed beer. Cameron’s Brewing has been a staple in Oakville for 20 years and offers old favourites as well as seasonal brews. It definitely deserves a visit this summer!

Go for a bike ride along the Trans Canada Trail

This section of the Trans Canada Trail includes 3.2km of bicycle-friendly trails that pass through marshland, parks and city streets to connect Clarkson and Port Credit. Grab a bike or go for a walk to see the different views Oakville has to offer.

Wander the village of Bronte Harbour

Otherwise known as Oakville’s village-by-the-lake, Bronte Harbour is a great place to spend an afternoon. This picturesque village located right on Lake Ontario is home to many shops and restaurants and is a great place to rent a bike or go for a walk along the water.

Hit the Beach at Kelso Conservation Area

You can easily hit the beach in Oakville at Coronation Park or Bronte Park. But the beach in the nearby Kelso Conservation Area
is well worth the drive to Milton. The Kelso Conservation Area is home to Lake Kelso and the nearly 4 square km park surrounding it. You’ll find a boardwalk, boat rentals and food vendors alongside this beautiful beach. Head out for the day or bring a tent and rent one of their campsites for the night.

Smell the roses at Royal Botanical Gardens

See what’s in bloom at the Royal Botanical Gardens. OK, this is in Burlington but what a beautiful, local attraction for all of us in Oakville. The sheer beauty of the botenical gardens are a feast for the senses, particularly your eyes. You don’t wan to miss seeing the blooms this season. Walk the 27km of trails, bring a book and relax for the afternoon, take a guided tour or even take a class. Bring your camera- you won’t be able to resist snapping a few photos!

Take in a Show

Experience some culture at the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts. From dance to film, there’s plenty to see at the Oakville Centre.
